Spring loaded ceiling grid.
I thought I saw a advertisement about a spring loaded ceiling grid system that held panels in place. This grid system was anchored to the beams in the basement. You would place your tile in the grid then flip the spring loaded flap and that would hold the tile in place. It would be very easy to remove tile if you had to access any pipes or wiring. I am having a hard time locating such a grid system. Did I just have a dream or is there such a system out there?

I don't quite understand why you'd need or want such a system unless it was for outdoors (canopy on a commercial bldg. for example) where the wind might come into play and blow tiles out. I have used plastic clips in such a situation that slip over the grid and hold the tile. Inside, it shouldn't be necessary. Try a drywall/acoustical supply if you're sure you need some sort of "hold down" clips....

I’ve came across this before.

The dropped ceiling was typical in most places and in areas where there was zero clearance it allowed you to pull down the frame to remove or insert a panel.

You would think any acoustic ceiling suppliers catalog would have the parts in there somewhere.
