Soffit between two walls in basement
Is there a particular way that a soffit needs to be "isolated" from wall framing, as far as code goes?
I have a lam beam and HVAC trunk line which span the width of the middle of my basement. there will be a wall at either end of the soffit. I feel like i read somewhere that the framing needs to not be connected, or something relating to firestop purposes. TIA! |

I am in Canada and have not had to do that. Best to check with some one local. Building inspector or carpenter.

Soffit between two walls in basement
Firestop is for between floors.
Run the soffit between the two walls. I like to use steel studs for soffits, because they are straight. Good luck, |

Soffit between two walls in basement
gotcha. so I'd want to close off the top of the soffit from the joists it's secured to, above. the walls should have no bearing and I can just run the soffit right up to the walls.
