Self Leveling Sub floor before Adding Floating Floor

I have a sub floor with some considerable dips. I want to put a pergo style floating floor down and am wondering about leveling the floor before hand. I've seen some shows where they use a self leveling mix to correct such problems.

Is this a good solution? If so, should I put lauan plywood down to make a nice clean surface for adhesion? Any other tips?

Thanks for the help!!!

The self levelling compounds can be a good choice, depending on the depth of the dips you have to fill. If it's going to be anything more than 1/4" or 1/2" tops, the levelling compound doesn't have the strength to be that filler. Another thing to consider is the type of subfloor you have, and why you have dips... could be that they were there before hand, or perhaps an "under" lying problem? (no pun intended!) Maybe you can post some pictures of the existing subfloor?

I wouldn't use a self leveling product on a wood floor. The floor will flex, crack the leveling compound and make the floor, crunchy.
