I have a room that has a lot of old paint and wondered if it would be easier to use a sand blaster rather than sanding by hand.

What would you recommend I use?

Let me guess, someone tryed using latex paint on all those walls.
Sandblasting would sure work if you do not mind sand being in every kook and cranny through out the house.
A wire brush would work better and make less mess.

And hiring some kid @ $5/hour to do that scraping for you would work best.

If you really insist on doing this job:
1) remove the slat shelving out of your way.
2) use a chemical paint stripper (that orange stuff).
3) wire brush what is left behind.
Yeah exposing some unknowing kid to poison is a great idea.

Have it tested. Then have someone who is leed certified provide you with the best approach moving forward.

At what point can we assume that a grown adult will have enough sense to know that when working with any of the thousands of jobs discussed here they may face an asbestos or lead or shock or flood or smoke or some other risk they should take some personal responsibility to protect themselves against?

Because if the implication is that EVERY single post made here needs to have a safety weenie clause typed into it... then that should be appended to EVERY post by the site or you might as well just shut down the site altogether.
