sagging ceiling

We have a sagging ceiling in the living room of our 1922 bungalow we are trying to restore. The ceilings are 9 ft. tall and the lath and plaster are still on. The joices are only 2x4's. Here are our options: drop the ceiling by putting 2x6's below the ceiling then adding drywall, or remove insulation:o, jack it up, and add more support on top, probably 2x8's. Any recommendations?

What is the length and width of the ceiling?

What type of space is above the ceiling? (attic, bedroom, bathroom...)
