Replacing Windows (Which Brand?)
My fiance and I are replacing the windows in our home.
We live in South Florida and are putting in impact windows. We are down to two contractors and are trying to choose which one to use. Both their estimates are comparable, as are their references, etc. So, I'm down to the window brand as a possible deciding factor. One contractor wants to put in Jeld-wen impact windows and patio doors. The other wants to put in American Craftsman series 8700 impact windows and a 5800 series impact slider. I've been doing some reading online. I've found a good bit of people that say AC is substandard, but that was when Silverline owned them back in 2007. Andersen owns them now. Is it a good window or not? What about the Jeld-wen? I'd really appreciate any help here, as I'm really up in the air and don't want to make a bad decision. I will say that no matter what, the windows will be a huge improvement over the current windows. We have aluminum frame, single pane windows that leak air and heat like crazy. |

Replacing Windows (Which Brand?)
As far as I know the American Craftsman is still the substandard product even though Anderson now owns them. I'd go for the Jeld-wen.

Which ones cost more. Go with those because you get what you pay for. I don't like either one, but you have to work with your budget.
