Replacing a window
Hi All,

I am going to replacing a current window that is a picture window (single plate of glass) that is rough opening of 8.0' wide and 5' high. The replacement window will be a little smaller. The rough opening of the new window will be 7'-10 3/4" for the height. To make the rough opening smaller I was going to laminate (2) 1/2" plywood strips 3 1/2" wide and the lenght of the sill and then fasten and glue the 1" lamination to the sill.
Does this sound reasonable to reduce a rough opening by an inch leaving 1/4" space for alignment and shimming? Do I need to totally reframe the window.
I live in south florida

Thanks in advance.

Why mess with the plywood? Just attach a 1x4 to the bottom of the rough opening to take up the space. You will still have a 1/2" to level/shim the window.

it sounds ok but...
south florida has some very stringent codes regarding windows i believe
hopefully a contractor from that area will respond or you can check with your building dept.
