Replacing/Reparing Rotten Studs?

Hello, I have a wood frame sliding glass door in my home that has rotted away and I'm getting ready to replace it (just waiting on the custom door to come in ). The rot has eaten away the frame of the door and the door sill but I can also see that it was eaten away at the outer frame of the door as well and the abscess goes a few inches into the wall.

I'm not quite sure on the extent damage yet, being that I haven't opened the wall but I would suspect that I have to replace/repair at least one of the parts of the studs and some chunks of the sill, but I'd like to have a basic understanding of the the preferred remedy of this problem before I dig in.

Obviously it's an exterior wall and it does have a roof sloping onto it so I would probably be best to hesitate before going in and ripping out studs.

So what's the best way to go about it? what is the method for repairing small sections of rotten studs and sill plates?

Also, at what point should I consider supporting the wall and just replacing the stud all together?

That definitely sounds like a supporting wall. Replacing one stud at a time does not usually require temporary support, cut out the old install the new. Don't tear out the supporting member of the header without temporary support. Floor joists can be tough, because of space limitations. Sometimes sistering is the easiest way to go, depending on the damage. Pics would help us.

As Bill stated, the repair situation would depend on the extent of the damage and where this area sat in the house.
Second the request of photos of the whole effected area..

#1 you need to try to figure out why it rotted out
Otherwise it may happen again
Does snow pile up against this area?

Is it only one side of the door or both?
If both the header support is compromised
In that case support & possibly jacking would be needed
