replacing door frame
 

We have a door frame on the west side of our house that is starting to rot. We noticed some small cracking a year or so ago, but it didn't get much worse until this spring. Then last weekend I noticed some sort of MUSHROOM things growing out of the exterior portion of the frame, about a foot up. I've put trim up around a new window before, and I think I'll probably end up buying a whole new door (we want one with the blinds built in, because this in our basement playroom area and the kids like to pull on the blinds). Our house is less than 6 years old, should I expect to replace this door every 5 years????? Is there an underlying problem here, or was it just shoddy installation by the contractor?

5 years old and rotting? Poor installation, yup. Or REALLY cheap materials......
