Replacing door on brick wall. Missing lintel! Advice?

Hi, I am replacing the an intererior door between house and breeezeway/garage with 30" firedoor. Breezeway side or wall is brick. Rough opeinging of brick is 33 1/2" W. After removing moulding around existing crappy door, I found no lintel in brick. It's been like this for 35+ years with no problems, bricks are in place and look solid but its time to fix all the mistakes and do it right.

Any tips on adding a lintel while doing minimal brick work??

Since the bricks and mortar look to be in good shape with no cracks, the easiest thing seems to be a flat bar across the span extending past the sides. This way I would just need to remove some motar. Is there such a thing as a flat bar lintel?

you could turn a metal lintel upside down and rip/torch the hanging edge to clear the door jamb then rabbit the back of the head casing to fit

The older I get the better I was

How old is the house? Sounds like it may be a "jack arch" that's doing exactly what it was intended to. Pics are worth 1000 words.
