Replace Cabinets When Replacing Countertop?

We have a 25 year old home that has pretty cabinets but laminate countertops. We are looking to replace the laminate tops with and engineered quartz like Silestone or Zodiak. Do we need to replace the cabinets or have them reinforced to support the additional weight of the quartz?

There cabinet under the sink needs a new bottom (previous owners had a small leak and it is sagging a bit). The fronts are very pretty and in good shape. I just did not know the support requirements.

Anyone have any experience in this arena?

Terri

Yes you will need to reinforce the cabinets to support the additional weight. You can do it yourself after you remove the old counter or the installers will reinforce the cabinets when installing your new counter. Make sure you have that included in your price of installation.

It really depends on the cabinet construction whether you need to reinforce them or not.
The countertop people should look at them and advise one way or the other.
