Removing the door frame, fixing the opening.
So im remodeling this apartment i bought, and one of the things i did was to remove the old door frame as it looked horrible, and there was no door on the hinges anyway. My plan is to open it up a bit, so i dont really want to replace it with another casing, i just want to even it out and have a bigger opening.

Problem is, the wall behind the casing was really pourus and crunchy, so when i removed the casing it left a lot of holes and dents on the surface behind it. Ill have added pics below.

What is the best way to even it out? should i simply remove everything down to the brick and put wooden boards with the right dimensions over it, fill in the cracks with grout and then paint? Or should i salvage what i can from whats left from these surfaces? There are a lot of cracks in the rest and large chunks are hanging lose, so im wondering how to approach this. Any help would be appreciated.

Is this basement, are all walls in house concrete, is that structural wall?

your best bet is to add a boxed door frame around the opening without a door added. it will cover all of the ugliness of the busted concrete,
just make sure to match what is in the rest of the house so it does not stand out. not sure if you should try and open that up anymore than it is
looks like it could be a structural wall...
