Removing calcoat reinforcement metal mesh

Hi. I'm new to this forum.

I'm tearing out my son's ceramic tile bathbay, due to moisture problems. It is all calcoat and is a bearcat to remove, except for the really rotten parts. I need some advice as to the correct procedure for mating the new sheetrock/tileboard wall to old calcoat one. Also, how to cut metal reinforcement mesh off neatly, without damaging old wall.

Thank you!

If the walls are at two different planes, you build one out. To cut the metal, pick up a 4 1/2" grinder with a few metal composite blades and a pair of goggles. You can also use tin snips if you're into manual labor.
