removing cabinet door frame

When remodeling kitchen cabinets, can the cabinet door frame wood piece that runs down the center of a two door opening be cut out?

YOu can cut it out but probably should not. It adds strength to the shelves.

I often remove them to install sliding drawers. The hard part is getting a smooth invisible cut and staining the cut to match the rest of the wood.
