I need help in removing wallpaper in kitchen that was installed in 1983
I have never removed wallpaper
Go to any big box store and buy a can of wallpaper remover. Follow directions very carefully, and be sure to wear a respirator, that stuff is NASTY (I know, I removed wallpaper recently in my living room). but it works. Make sure you wear appropriate gloves, bad news on your hands.
I have removed hundreds of yards of wallpaper with using HOT water and vinegar as my tools. The hard part about removing wallpaper is getting the adhesive off the wall prior to painting The paper itself is not the issue. Once you wet down the paper it will come off with some PATIENCE. The problem with wetting the surface is gouging the surface of the drywall behind it. I like to use a 4" mud/spackling knife but holding it at at close degree with the wall, not pushing into the wall, but more a scraping push motion.
I will suggest that you change this question to the Painting section on this site for even better information. The painters and wallpaper people hang out there more than this section:wink:. Post your questions there, or even do a search, I know there is alot of information on how to deal with striping and then painting afterwards!!!!!!!!!
GooD Luck, See you in the Painting Section!!!!!!!!!!
