Remodeling/Gutting Kitchen, Floor First?

We're completely gutting our kitchen and remodeling it. I am "handy" with basic framing, Sheetrock, and electrical.

Do to time constraints, I'm going to hire professionals to do some work, mainly install hardwood floors.

What order of work do the hardwood floors happen? After I gut the kitchen, I'm going to do all the electrical, lighting, and Sheetrock.

I'm assuming the hardwood floors and appliances go in over top/after the floors are in?

I would call and ask some installers when you need to schedual them for the hard wood. I would also wait as long as possible so you don't have to worry about dropping a hammer or something on the floors and damaging them.

I am also in the midst of a major remodel of the public area of my house - new kitchen, removing walls, floors, etc. I am going with hardwood floors everywhere, to include the kitchen. They will be one of the last things to go in - baseboards will go in last.

Pros and cons of installing a floor before cabinets in the kitchen. I want them not under the cabinets. Avoidling damage during construction is one reason. If I ever want to change out the floor - damage, want something different, or other, it will be easier if not under the cabinets. Hardwood floors are expensive, don't want to waste money on putting them under the cabinets.

When your cabinets go in, the installer will want to put them on plywood to space them up to compensate to the height of the finished floor - else you may not be able to get the diswasher installed...
