remodeling a 1920 kitchen part 2
 

ok, i,m going to start phase one on my 1920 kitchen remodel
first i will demolish the lower wood cabinet and remove the metal sink
i,m installing the unfinished oak base cabinets
i decided to leave the upper cabinet and convert it to a doorless shelf
strip the paint off and stain it
the upper cabinet is too low over the counter so i want to cut some of it off
from a four to a three shelf unit,the doors will be removed
what saw should i use to cut ?
the cabinet will still be on the wall,i,m afraid if i remove the cabinet ,the plaster will crumble around it

Sounds like you need to re-evaluate your process. Trying to saw cut a cabinet on the wall will be very cumbersome and difficult to get "right" and may cause more damage than if you just took it off the wall. If your walls are so fragile they will crumble at the mere effort of taking a cabinet down, then you may want to include a line item for fixing that plaster. I would also plan on finishing the un-finished cabinet before putting it in place.

Cabinets come at about phase 10 of a kitchen remodel.
This is especially so for what might actually be a 90 year old room.
So NO... you don't design or plan a remodel around 100 year old cabs.

You remove what you have to remove (including the plaster) in order to inspect the framing and give access for the INEVITABLE repairs that will be needed there as well as the electrical and plumbing and insulation changes that WILL BE going in.

THEN you can do the wall sheathing to close it up again.
THEN you can think about hanging cabinets.
