redoing 1950's bathroom


hi guys-

want to ripout old pink wall tile and shower/bath tile....replace with
"wainscotting around room except for shower/bath where i want to use ..what do u call it ..shower wall panels found at home depot and lowes. any feed back good bad or ugly?!?!

Do you want to keep the existing drywall above the tile? I just tore apart my green tiled bathroom this weekend, sounds like the same sort of thing you mention (mine was from 1958). Needless to say the metal mesh that the tile was attached on the upper edge was underneath the edge of the drywall an inch or so. Just a warning so you don't damage more than you want to. It's a messy job.

redoing 1950's bathroom


I'm looking at the same project - wainscotting and tiles for the tub/shower surround. I would normally use concrete backer board, but I'm concerned about the weight. Does anybody have experience with easyboard found at the borg? My plan is to tear out the old tub sourround and drywall, put up a vapor barrier and easyboard and tile. I should end up with the same weight as I have now.
