Recommendations needed Door manufacturers

We are renovating our house and need to buy 3 doors. We are looking for a good quality but affordable steel or fiberglass doors. Can anyone recommend where to look for good quality doors? We considered HD, but we are not sure if the quality of doors there. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated

I usually install Thermatru's or Pease. I have had good luck with both, and they both offer steel and fiberglass. You should be able to get them through HD or Lowes. Also, most regular lumberyards can get them too.

I second Thermatru. Masonite used to be Stanley, but their products quality seem to have slipped some since taking over Stanley.

I'm ok with any of the major brands; like anything else, higher costs usually get a better quality product. Things I suggest:

Go with fiberglass over steel, they are too prone to rusting out at the bottom edge.

Look at the style of frame the manufacturer uses to install any glass lites in the door, some of them are pretty bulky and ugly; some are much more sleek and eliminate the ugly screw holes that need to have the plastic plugs installed in them.

Look for the "jamb saver" option, where the bottom foot or so of the jambs are made from a composite to keep the jambs from rotting where they sit on the aluminum sill. It is usually $30-45 upcharge, but worth it in my opinion.

I second the fiberglass and forget the steel.

There are some stains for fiberglass doors that when done you couldn’t tell it apart from wood.

Couple more thoughts. Make sure you get an adjustable sill. If you want to use a fiberglass door for the door that goes from an attached garage into the house, they do make one with a fire rating like the steel doors.(20 minutes with the wood frame). It has a layer of drywall for the central core. I have one in my own house. It is heavier than a solid oak door and doesn't dent when the kids try to open it with their feet.
