Rebuilding fireplace mantel

I am planning to remodel my fireplace mantel with new wood
and cornish mouldings. I can't find any books that show what and how to do it so it will look professional. Can anyone help?
Thanks
bob

A book on trim carpentry might have what you need. Often those are built up with layers of flat stock with a cove, bead, and/or crown thrown in at the end. There can be as many variations as imagination will allow, so I doubt any book will cover it all, just the basics.
