reattaching towel bar

A picture would help--We don't know how the old one was attached---

Some are held with screws into anchors

Ceramic ones are usually glued in place with silicone,--Mike--

reattaching towel bar

Here are some options:

There is a special bit if you need to drill new holes into ceramic tile Sort of looks like a pointy spade. If the tile is badly damaged and you didn't want to repair it you could mount the towel bar to a piece of wood and then cover the damaged areas. I've used shelving boards for this as well as nicely finished wood depending on the area. Shelves are quick cause they are fully finished on all sides and strong enough when you bolt the rod back to it. Regular drywall screws into studs. Cover the holes with the colored sticky dots that match the shelving.

Molly bolts are another option. I'd get the ones that have wings when you tighten them as opposed to the plastic sleeve that goes into the hole. go back into the prior holes if the wall wasn't too damaged. If it is just a little damaged buy the biggest molly that will fit your mounting bracket for the towel bar

Epoxy or silicon

Moving the towel rod to someplace else

Calling a tile guy

a picture would get you better advice
