re-siding a house

why do new construction houses for siding just get house wrap and than vinyl siding put up. In our quest to re side our house a few companies are going to tear old house wrap off and put new up and than side. I have even had three guys say they will put up a product called fanfold than side the house which is better house wrap or fanfold they don't house wrap just fanfold?

Generally,we use fan fold to go over existing siding.

It gives the installer a level plane to apply his new siding .

House wraps are installed as a component in a wall system on newer well insulated homes, for the purpose of allowing any moisture to escape from the interior and cutting back on air infiltration.

Depending on the amount of insulation ,type of insulation, presence of an interior vapor barrier, the exterior of your house should be treated independently.

This being said, fan fold has a minimum R-value,so if the siding is being stripped, consider a thicker insulation.
