I am about to do a kitchen remodel and one thing I plan to do is add either a rangehood or a microwave rangehood. The stove is on an interior wall, and the hood would put a vent about 8 feet from an exterior wall. I'm planning to run a vent up into the attic and across to the outside wall, but that will end up pushing air about 10-15 feet (from hood to outside air). Is that too long of a distance to expect from a rangehood fan?
The other option would be to go straight up and out the roof, but I really think cutting through the roof should only be done if it is the last resort.
You need to look at the instructions on the unit you're installing. Each will have parameters of install. You're calculation of linear feet will not be calculated the same as, "duct run feet". A 90 degree elbow will add 5 linear feet to this calculation. Each unit will have a maximum recommended "duct run feet"
Check out each unit you might buy on the manufacturers website and pick the one that will work with your setup.
