Powder Actuated Hammer Tool question?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to frame a basement but I can't get the nail on my nail gun to go through the concrete for the bottom beam. The concrete is so hard that the nails just popped up like curly french fried :furious:. Do I need to use the 22 caliber powder actuated hammer tool for the bottom 2x4 beam or I need a special type of nail for it? Can someone please help me?

Thank you everyone in advance!

Tapcon screws work really well. Sometimes the Powder tools work well, sometimes they don't. Shooting a framing nail into concrete is never the correct way to fasten the bottom plate.

what!?!? you are using a regular framig nailer to try to shoot into concrete!?! thats funny! you definitely need a powder actuated gun to shoot into concrete. you can also use tapcons like sixeightten said.

Believe it or not Max Air makes a high pressure air nailer / compressor setup, (450 psi), That shoots masonry coil nails. coil nailer is about the size of a finish nailer with a drum.

There are even hand nails you can get for concrete.

Tapcons (concrete screws) work well

can i use the regular drill and drill it straight down or i need to pre-drill a hole first?

Tap cons must be pre drilled into concrete. The kit comes with the correct size bit for the screws.
The powder actuated guns are hella loud in a basement. Wear hearing protection!

Those old nails were, most likely, hardened concrete nails--hand driven with a 3 pound hammer.

You need a 'Hammer Drill' for drilling into concrete a regular drill will not work.
