Porch Insulation
I have a screened porch that I would like to enclose and turn into living space. It is supported by concrete piers and 4x6 posts. It is on a slope so the low end is about 2 ft. off the ground and the high end is about 6 ft. off the ground. The floor joists are 2x6's. The underneath is easily accessible. There is no vapor barrier under the floor. What would be the best way to insulate under the floor of this porch? I'm located in western NC at an elevation of about 4,100 feet.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

The first step is probably to look up the joist size in a span table. 2x6 joists can't span very far for an interior floor.

If the 2x6's are sufficient, then I'd put rigid foam and fiberglass in the bays. Or maybe fiberglass and rigid foam continuous attached to the bottoms.

I would contact your City or County Building Department first. They have safety codes for converting structures to living spaces. You need heat and ventilation, a proper foundation, electrical requirements, etc. to be safe.
Be safe, Gary
