Plaster repair questions

Where can I find a good web site or set of instructions for repairing plaster walls? It appears my walls are some sort of hard plaster applied over a 1st generation drywall, not the typical plaster and lath.

The 1960's era house I'm working on had a very serious water problem. There was standing water in the basement for several months before I bought it, and lots of mold due to the high humidity. I already fixed the water problems and cleaned up most of the mold problems, but now I have to fix the deteriorated walls. The majority of the damage seems to be water related - mostly from humidity condensing on the windows and running down the interior walls. How do I go about fixing these problems without replacing whole walls? The plaster is mostly still intact but there are some soft spots I'm going to have to cut out and replace.

Problem #2 - I also see a lot of peeling paint and "spider veins" in the ceilings. I assume this was also caused by the humidity. Is there anything special I need to do with this, or can I just scrape it off, putty, and repaint?

Isn't this a DIY forum? I have more time than money, so I prefer to give it a shot myself first.

First things first, Lead Paint?

Get yourself a test kit at your favorite HW store and check EACH LAYER of paint, not just the last one.

How old is this house?
I'd be more inclined to think it's paster over tile board. It was common to see this before drywall came out. It was faster then applying all that lath.
I would not hesatate a min. to remove all of that old plaster.
Reasons being.
There's going to be trapped moisture behind those walls now.
Would give you the chance to up grade and or replace any wet insulation.
Allow you to up grade wiring or add more outlets.
If ballon constrution you would have access to install blocking at the top and bottom of the wall to add fire safety and stop air flow inside the walls.
