Pinterest-Inspired Living Room Redesign Tips

A living room is often the crux of a home. It's the place where the family gathers to relax and hang out. Considering the amount of time you spend in the room, it's probably time for a redesign. To freshen up your living room, here's a few Pinterest-inspired design tips:

Move your furniture
An easy trick to spice up your room: move your furniture away from the wall. A lot of people tend to keep their furniture snug against the walls, but if you pull the furniture into the middle of the room and create a conversation area, you instantly change the look and feel of the room. Some people think this makes the room look smaller, but the opposite is actually true.

Swap items from room to room
Switch up your room decorations. Take the bookshelf from the office or the painting from above your bed and put them in your living room. It's a simple move, but it's easy to do and certainly affordable.

Remove items that clash
While every room needs a slash of color, make sure there's nothing in your living room that clashes. If you've got bright pink pillows on a dark green couch, it might not offer the look you're going for.

Dress up your windows
Make a statement with new window dressings. Whether you buy long sheer curtains or go for something a bit more festive like these blinds with an apple pattern, you'll love what new blinds can do to your room. You can find more blind ideas here. From modern to funky, there are all kinds of blinds and curtains to chose from.

Scrub, baby, scrub
You'd be amazed how far a little cleaning can go. To help revive your living room, get out the cleaning products and scrub brushes and start cleaning. Consider getting your carpets cleaned, or rent a cleaner and do it yourself. Use a Swiffer to wipe down the walls. Get the family involved in the cleaning project. With a few extra hands, you’ll have a like-new living room.

Paint the walls
After you scrub the place down, a fresh coat of paint will jazz up the room in no time. If you pick a light color, you'll make the room feel larger. Of course, you don't have to stick to one drab color; you could paint an accent wall a different color or add a design to the wall like this.

Get crafty
If you're crafty there are plenty of items you can make to dress up your living room. Again, Pinterest is a great place for this kind of inspiration. Take this DIY art, for example. Or take some old furniture and upcycle it, like these retro-looking tables.
