I guess the decision is up to you. Given the vintage of your place and the fact that everything else is textured (is it drywall or plaster by the way, not that it matters) you may want to carry that through. Just remember that committing to a texture means you will have to maintain it to look right should you experience cracks or have to patch it for whatever reason.

I assume you have new drywall to texture? Definitely do yourself a favor and double check all your tape joints, metal corners, etc. It seems like a high number of posts on this site have to do with them coming loose and pulling apart the texture along with them. Prime your walls before texturing for best results. Prime everything again before you paint---with two coats of finish.

And remember, a textured surface is going to trap more cigarette smoke/tar, dirt/dust, etc. just because there is more surface area. The higher the sheen of the paint you choose, the more any imperfections will show.
