Opening for slider too tall..

All,

The opening for a slider that I wanted to install is about an inch too tall. Can I screw a pice of dimensional lumber (5/4) to the bottom of the header and fluch with the sheathing to attach the nailing flange at the top of my new slider?

Thanks,

Cam

yes,but don't forget you should shim the bottom up a little which may change the dimension you need, you want a little space all around the unit

It should not matter if it's to tall. It's common to have a 1" gap at the top so the door and be adjusted to make it plumb and square.
I would not make it tight, just adding a piece of 3/4" should make up the gap.

The problem is that he's got nothing to nail the flange at the top to. It's typical to have a "nailer" attached to the bottom of the header.
