Question

Non-standard door frame

Bathroom has been gutted, getting around to the door frame and thought it best to ask the professionals before I screw the next thing up.

The house has plaster over drywall. The walls were removed in the bathroom (both plaster and drywall) and replaced with just drywall (1/2"). Outside the bathroom there remains the 1/2" plaster and 1/2" drywall.

The bathroom door frame measures at 5" (1/2" drywall on the bathroom side, 1/2" drywall and 1/2" plaster on the other side, 2x4 framing).

My understanding of this is, I should go above 5" on the door frame - I'm not sure if this is correct or not, or how much more I should go (1/4" or 1/8" for example). Trim would of course have to line up with the frame and such when completed.

Menards tells me this is a special order item - doesn't surprise me. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Whole lot cheaper to just make jamb extentions for a standard door.
Google it.

Only thing with that, I'd rather not do any staining if at all possible. I have so much to do, it would save me a lot of time if I could find pre-stained and matching door frame/door and matching trim.

Unless I could use trim for the extension, I'm not sure.
