New window vinyl problem

Help - I cut the hole too large in the vinyl, now there is a gap all around the window - how do I seal and fix it so the siding doesn't get water underneath without it looking too ugly please?

The hole got too big because you couln't get the window flanges behind the siding, right?
If the necessary anyway J channel isn't big enough, maybe install brick moulding around the window, then the J channel around that. If you do make sure to install a piece of
1 1/2x 1 1/2" drip edge over the top. -Up behind the siding and out between the moulding and the J channel.

You COULD replace the pieces of siding that are cut too short IF you can match the color. It is a pain and will be the more expensive route. The brick mold idea sounds feasible, but the one window will be different than the rest of the house. If you go that route, use the composite trim, not wood, so you don't have to worry about it rotting.
