Question

New deck where there is cement step

We are planning a deck. An old solid cement step is in the way.
If we build over the top of this step, would that be up to code.
What problems could this cause?
This cement step is lodged slightly under the siding. It will have to be pulled out and inch or two. We would have to
borrow a bobcat tractor with a jack hammer to break the cement. So if we could build overtop that would simplyfy the job.

Talk to your local inspector. Here it is legal, just may look dumb under the deck, can see it through the boards.

Yep, here too. Just cut the joists to fit around the step. Add 2x bridging between the joists at the step.

New deck where there is cement step

Thanks everyone,
Just talked to a building supply center. They said there wouldn't be room to put the floor joists or floor boards.
The step will have to come out.

You only have to get it low enough for the joists to go over the top. My house had a set of concrete steps in front, 3 hits with a sledge hammer & they fell apart. Had to remove them because they were in the way of shifting the house.

Please post us a picture of the area. Are the steps solid or are they the hollow precast steps sold thru concrete and landscape centers?
