New Bath Tub Framing

I want to put in a 60" tub but my opening is 66" long. I am planning to build a 6" frame on the far end of the tub away from the drain. I want to do it this way because there will be a hatch for access on the other end for the shower mixer. Is there a problem with building a box like this on the far end? I'm just concerned about drainage. I will slope it into the tub slightly and tile it.

Thanks.

no problem. Be sure to waterproof under the tile and up the wall 12" also.

What do you mean by waterproof? I usually use 1/2" cement board and thinset mortar under the tile. Is there something else I should do? Thanks.

use you need to use a waterproofing membrane. Treat the ledge the same as you would a shower floor. Check out details on installing such items at the schulterer site.

Don't forget to insulate around the tub and grout under it, at install. Use tin to cover the drain cut-out in sub-floor if over a crawlspace to keep the critters out...... wait, that's my house.

Be safe, Gary
