Need ideas to put attach drywall

Hey guys working on a new wall in my basement project. I removed old paneling from fur strips. Wondering if base plate really necessary? I need to attach electrical outlet so I was gonna nail 2x4s to existing strips and do without base plate. Is this a good idea? Or would anyone suggest just attach drywall to existing strips? If this is suggested can I attach outlet to strips somehow or flush mount? how do I hide wiring?

Any ideas or tips is always appreciated.

How will you eventually attach your baseboards if there is nothing there at the bottom?

You can buy shallow outlet boxes that will fit neatly into the 3/4" space (actually 1-1/4" after wallboard) I think. Doesn't leave room for any errors or excess wire though. There is also surface-mounting available called "Wire Mold" I think.

BC thanks for reply....ur right. Forgot about baseboards. Well in that case guess I might as well go with 2x4s. Guess I jus buyregular outperform boxes and frame boxes normal. I wa really hoping to save some room and keep it closer. Thx for input!
