Need basic advice on choosing tile for countertop
 

I have decided to tile my countertops (currently they have the typical old Formica tops).

What do I need to consider for the materials? I know I will be using 6x6 tiles, and that I will need bullnose tiles and outside corners. Do I need to get glossy tiles, since it will be a food preparation surface?

I found some nice tiles at Lowes, though they are described as wall tiles. They are a more flat finish, not glossy. I am going with earthtones, and the color is called "wheat". Would these work for a countertop?
