Need advise with insulated foam sheathing

So I want to install vinyl siding over this nasty,40 something year old asbstos siding I have on my house.

I want to hang insulated foam sheathing unders the vinyl.
The pink type you get at Home Depot:http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pro...2d8a67_400.jpg

I was thinking I would first attach home wrap, then 1/2" foam sheathing followed by vinyl siding.

I'm looking for some advise on whether this is a good/bad idea.
If this is a good idea perhaps some useful advise/pointers on instalation.

I would think 1/2 is somewhat pricey. I put vinyl siding over my old asbstos shingle home back in 2002. I nailed up what they called "fan fold" just to help create a somewhat even surface for the vinyl. I wasn't looking for any insulation value.

"I" would take off the siding first. Check locally and see what where and how to do it yourself safely. VERY few fibers coming of this stuff and down the road,,better now than later. When you hit it with a nail it shatters like glass,,,combine gravity, build up at the bottom,,,whats it going to look like??

very little cracking..and if one did crack the fan fold held it in place. They didn't slide to the bottom. I believe if you ever sell you would need to disclose that the siding does exist. Call up the local building dept.they will advise.
