Molding over heat register

Hi

I have an old house where when the previous owners remodel the bath they slightly covered the edges of a 10x10 heat register on the floor. They used vinyl molding so the heat register was sort of removable. I now want to replace the vinyl with wood molding, and if I do so there will be no way to remove the register. How important is it that the register is removable? My only other option would be to put a smaller register there, but I'd really like to keep the antique brass one I have.

thanks
pat

cut the trim back, make a frame around the register there, then bring trim up to that

Wish I had a picture....Seems like this would work if the register was on the wall. The register is on the floor and the molding would be on the wall... Or maybe I don't understand your idea?

Here's a crude drawing...x is the wall, M-molding, equal sign the register, and dash the floor. Maybe I could notch the molding, although not sure how that would work...

Ayuh,....

Or you just just clearance the molding enough to allow removal of the register....

I would notch the molding slightly to allow for the removal of the register. If you clean it up real good first, you probably won't ever want to remove it anyways. If you are going to be doing something that would require removing it, you would proably be spending enough on the project to warrent replacing that one piece of molding anyways. So therefore just put in the molding. (If this is your own home. If it's a customers home, do it right and notch the molding).
