Looking for Replacement windows

I bought a 120 y/o home a year ago. Amongst other sloppy work we have undone from the previous owner we need to replace the windows. A past owner had installed storm windows but they are broken and several are missing entire sliding sections. These of course will be removed. What I need is a good performing attractive replacement. I need to match the original windows in appearance as this is a home in a historic area. The windows need to be split down the center. This is proving to be a problem as what I have found is some make the style I need but not the color. others offer the color but not the style.

When you say, "split down the middle", are they 2 over 2 double hungs or casements that open out?
Marvin will make pretty much whatever you want, for a price.

Did you ask if they will custom paint the exterior?

ask if who will paint the exterior. Vinyl or vinyl clad do not take paint very well. One attractive feature of this type of unit is the lack of painting. why would I want to buy new windows and then have to paint them year after year. Oh and did I mention I do all my own work.. I will not hire a contractor for this.

I do not know what the restrictions are for you in order to comply with the historic peramiters that you have to meet, but go to www.jeld-wen.com and check out their wood product. 20 year warranty on the wood (best in the business) The cladding on the exterior is aluminim with 70% Kynar. No fading or chalking. They also comply to most historic limitations if you let them know what you need. We run into alot of issues in that area here in SF and have been able to utilize the product.

Jeld wen has a good looking product but the suppliers here cannot do exactly what I need with that product. and I was unable to locate exactly what I would need through the web.

Is there an 84 Lumber around your area? Huge Jeld-Wen dealer. They can actually get the Jeld-Wen rep. involved with you in determining what you need.

that may help.. though 84 lumber is nearly 30 miles away from here. The site lets me see their product line but does not give me the option of actually choosing my size, color and style. This to me in this day is antiquated.

Marvin has 3 classifications of colors:
1. Standard colors of which there are 5
2. Select colors of which there are 14
and....
Wait for it...
3. Custom colors.
Colors which you pick out and they will paint your cladding. It will have the same maintaince as the other colors, no more, no less. There is an extra charge for this , but you get exactly the shade of brown you want. Is this a great country or what!
If you visit their web site, like I did after you posted, you will find this information readily available.
Like I said before, contact Marvin, they might have what you want.

I would agree, although they did just win a Crystal Acheivment award for having the best web site. I would assume they place limitations on how much you can do on the site in order to support thier dealers. Although 84 Lumber is 30 miles away they may actually pay you a visit at the site depending on the size.
