laminate counter tops
can you ceramic tile over laminate counters

Yes, but you need to rough up the surface so the thinset/adhesive has something to bite onto. And thoroughly clean to remove grease, dust.

First of all,you should inspect your countertop for signs of peeling, or bubbles in the laminate, before starting tiling on it. Now,sand down the laminate lightly to remove the gloss and to make the surface rough. after this, you can spread the grout mortar over the laminate and insert tiles in the desired pattern. :icon_lol:

Yes, but I would not do it.

The better method would be to remove the Laminate top and rebuild it using pressure treated plywood topped with cement board, in my humble opinion.

Are your base cabinets solid and support the current countertops well?
What you need to be concerned with is deflection of the tile, will you have teenagers sitting on the counters, etc... tile and the cement board will add a good amount of weight.

Jl is right though I have done successful installs with adding bracing to limit the deflection from under the base cabinets, thinset and screwed in 1/4" cement board.
