What kind of wall. Is it load bearing and holding all or part of your house up?

#1 You have to figure out of it's load bearing.
#2 Find out is there's any wiring, plumbing, HVAC ducts inside the wall.

Is it an inside or outside wall?

knocking down a wall

True story. One of my best friends used to build very high end residences in an affluent neighborhood or two in Northern California. He once put an offer on a house that had a couple mortgages and a construction loan attached to it. It was clear the bank had never checked up because the DIYers had removed bearing walls, the house had collapsed, and the homeowners had just walked away from it. He was going to raise and build a new home anyhow so it didn't matter to him but we had to laugh about it. The people destroyed what was probably a home in the $350K range. He built something about 3 times that which of course amounted to about 400sf in N California of course.

Lesson is make sure you know what you are taking down and how to do it. As mentioned above, if you are not sure pay someone to do it.

Use a sledge hammer cause its the basic tools to do it but it also depends on what type of wall it is...
