Island Cooktop Lighting

I am having a home built and have decided to go with an island mount gas cooktop (Dacor) with a downdraft unit (Thermador). I was wondering if its a bad idea to have pendant lights directly over the cooking surface. Should I just do recessed or have pendants at either end of the island to avoid interference with the cooking area?

I want to take advantage of the coupon code I found from HomeClick. http://www.homeclick.com HCFriends (12% off) so I need to make a decision soon.

Thanks,

James

Island Cooktop Lighting

I have never installed pendent lights over a cooking surface, only over an open bar or island. The only lights I have installed over a cooking island are recessed.

Island Cooktop Lighting

I'm actually in the middle of a major home addition and renovation and plan on putting a gas cooktop in a peninsula with pendant lights just off of the sides of the cooktop.
