Insulating beside existing basement stairs
When remodelling a basement what do you do for insulation beside the stairs?
Because they are existing and usually cannot be easily moved we usually insulate that area with the thickest styrofoam we can (usually 1.5 to 2") which we embedded 1x3 into, then covered with 1/2" drywall and trying to keep a 36" width.
Some inspectors let us "cheat" it down to 35".
We spray foamed between the stringer and the wall.
