Hardie over Masonite siding???

Hello All -

It is night so I will get a picture up in the morning.

I am pretty sure it is Masonite Siding, excuse if I am wrong.

The front of the house which faces south has which I believe has Masonite lap type siding and the the rest of the home is stucco

Alot of the other homes in the neighborhood (all been custom, most built within a couple of years of each other) has Hardie Lap Siding and the homeowners really like it

Have seen a lot of problems with this same siding, which I believe is Masonite, they want to change it over to a Hardie

The trim and siding appears to be in great shape

My question is can you side with Hardie lap siding directly over this???

I will get pictures up asap.

Or do I need to rip it all off, go back to the plywood or OSB and re tyvek and go from there???

Thanks,
Mike

best to pull it,that will keep your trim and siding elevations the same

Do not put Hardie over masonite. Rip off the old siding, do it the right way the first time.
