Hardiboard and Shower

Hi all,

I"m in the process of putting hardiboard in my shower surround. I put hardiboard on the ceiling above the shower and then the rest of the bathroom with greenboard. However, given the layout of the ceiling joists, the greenboard on the ceiling is in the shower area by about 3-4 inches.

My plan is to redgard the shower area, and then tile the whole thing, including the ceiling.

Now I'm wondering if I'm better off having the hardiboard on the ceiling protrude outside of the shower area, and use drywall compound on it and then paint the hardiboard to match the ceiling outside of the shower. Will it look OK? Or, is the little bit of greenboard in the shower area OK as long as redgarded?

Thanks!

Unless you are building a steam shower--drywall on the ceiling is fine--coated with Redguard? you are as safe as you can get.
