Greenboard around new tub/surround

I need to install greenboard around a new tub/surround. Right now there is a two inch space above and around the new surround. Spacing resulted from the removal of the old unit.

How far out from the unit should I cut and replace the greenboard? 1 stud - 2 studs?

Also, in most construction, is the ceiling wallboard put up before the walls?

Thanks for your help.

You might as well go the 3" out along the vertical length of the shower/tub surround.
However, I suggest that you not use MR board. Consider one of these choices (I believe that all the Big HomeImprovement Stores are carrying them now):

XP Board: http://www.nationalgypsum.com/products/product69.aspx

Paperless Drywall: http://www.gp.com/BUILD/product.aspx?pid=6353

It is standard procedure to put the "lids up first". That means, ceilings are always hung first.
