Glass block install Q. alternative installation methods?

i am redoing a wall that is between the tub and the only light in the bathroom. So to add some light to the tub/shower area thouight of useing glass blocks that I have had for a while.

the thing is from my understanding it takes some vinyl tracks and glass block mortar etc. our stores dont sell it but order it and it takes longer than I wan to wait. i could think of some options but not sure if there are unkowns to kill it. for instance cant you just frame em in like a window? Of course that is only good for the perimiter. Are the tracks necessary for the side and bottoms?

maybe I will just leave it open but would like to use the blocks.

They probably keep the glass from hitting each other. Glass doesn't like that. Try a glass replacement dealer they should know.

Most masons have the block made up into panels--steel band and mortar---

Do you have a brick yard in your area? they should have every thing you need---mortar and brick straps and that track you mentioned--although my mason does not use a track, just mortar and clips--Mike---

No brickyard here. did try some glass shops had not thought of that. they only helped me to call some other people. turns out our Lowes sells the stuff just nobody working there seems to know it. So of course when seeing it he did not know about install either.

they have the vinyl tracks I had seen and heard of before. dont know if I need them or want them.

Can It all just be mortord in? no grout?
I dunno, still llooking

Thanks for the replies

Yep---just mortar---you will only be able to do about 3 feet tall before you need to stop and let that much set up--then add to the already set stack of blocks-

I;m not a mason---when that type of work is done--I just watch and hand things to the mason--

Oh--I thought you were building a block wall! You will do fine---Brick clips are just L-shaped wavy galvanized sheet metal pieces that get nailed to the frame and tucked into the mortar joints to secure the work to the frame--
