Garage door

How hard or easy is it to heighten a garage door? The door is plenty wide just need a bit taller. Plenty of room from existing door to the eave or roof.

What do you call "plenty of room"?There is usually a 12" header that fills that space and is needed to support the span.

There is at least another 2' to the roof.

Should not be a problem then. You will have to shorten the the cripples above the header. Then raise the header and add longer jack studs to support the header.

Got a picture of the inside and out in that area?
What type siding?
Is there cripples above the header, if so how long are they?
Single story?

No pics, house hunting. Found a possibilty, just too short in the garage door. LP siding, which will be changed if we purchase. Single story.

You should be able to find drawings of typical garage framing in the library--or on the internet--that will give you some idea --there is a header above the door---sometimes a rather large one---

The issue is the amount of open space above that headed and the top of the wall--before the roof trusses---
