Framing in bathroom remodel

I am remodeling a spare bathroom. I would like to move out one of the walls off the the tub alcove about 1 inch. I have ripped some 2x4's down the one inch thickness and I plan to attach them to the existing frame of the wall. Should I use common nails or wood screws to attach the 1 inch frame pieces to the old frame? I know that nails are typically used but since the old frame is already nailed together and attached to the concrete slab, I thought screws would do the job attaching the 1 inch pieces to the existing framing.

Screws should work--that is more along the lines of a furring strip--not structural.--Mike--
