Floating Shelf Issue!!

Again, I did not know the exact spot for this so if moderators move it, I apologize. I am building some 29X9 inch floating shelves for my bath room. There will be nothing heavy store on these shelves. But my issue is the weird placement of the studs in my bath room. I will be able to get two of the four screws I will be installing for the bracket that the shelf slides onto, only two of them will be in studs. What would be the best way to secure these other two screws? They are going into drywall so should I use drywall anchors?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Zach

Floating Shelf Issue!!

Also, does anyone think that having a floating shelf sticking out nine inches is going to be too long? I am just using some 1x2's and making the bracket on the wall then sliding the shelf I assembled over it. Would this be too long for this method?

Got a picture of what your trying to do.
Trying to picture how the 1 X 2's come into play as well as the "brackets".
Studs for the most part are 16 O/C center so hard to see why you can not attach directly to them.

This is what I am doing.

The first one. So the part that mounts to the wall that is made of 1x2 boards which I called a "bracket" for whatever reason. That is the part I am worried about because not all the screws that go into the wall will hit a stud so I am wondering if dry wall anchors will help or what a better alternative is.

If you hit 2 studs you will be fine. Just make sure you use scres long enough to be it the stud an inch (1x2 is usually 3/4" + 1/2" drywall = 2 1/4" screw). Don't go too long with the screw because you are more likely to hit electrical or plumbing in the walls.

Floating shelves are always a little floppy unless they are planed out before the drywall goes up.

Use toggle bolts or EZ anchors for the other areas if you can't get 2 studs
