Fireplace redo

Hello - my husband and I are new to this forum. We have a circa 1970s home with a large brick fireplace in our family room that we would like to redo. My husband is willing to cover some of the brick, but not all. I am attaching pictures of the fireplace so you can see how much brick there is! It goes around three sides. We are looking for any ideas on how to update this fireplace without totalling covering all of the brick. Thank you for your help!
